Japanese symbols rarely work unless they are part of the theme, i.e. the symbol should be part of a Japanese theme or representing what the symbol means. In this case, the symbol for fire, while it is representing the flame, feels out of place as there is nothing remotely Asian about said picture. The girl is Caucasian and there are no buildings or items representing Japanese culture.

I will admit that even though it is a black and white picture the fire does look impressive. The only problem is that at first glance, I thought it was a bunch of fluff from her hair. The fire in the foreground is not bright enough and her hair is not dark enough to bring out the brightness of the fire by contrast.

The structure looks nice and just needs a little more tuning in light and dark value.
